John Maloof (of Vivian Maier fame) is an artist based in Chicago. His precise acrylic paintings are done on the back side of plexiglass and evoke 1980s aesthetics. Some pieces are made with authentic, vintage 1980s frames.
Maloof also works in film and photography. The artist co-produced the documentary “Finding Vivian Maier,” for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary feature. When he is not painting, Maloof runs Miishkooki, a gallery in Skokie, Illinois, and curates / manages Maier’s photographic archive.
