Lee Grantham

Conceptualizing artwork that bridges the strong tradition of imagery in Chicago and his own style of surrealism, Lee Grantham creates energetic pieces that are painted in reverse on plexiglass. Using acrylic, the artist masters this challenging technique, with each painting created with incredible depth. Grantham’s unique visual language is energetic, nostalgic, and obsessive, as he stylizes his vision of pop culture from the 50s to the 80s to the present day.

John Maloof (of Vivian Maier fame) recently rediscovered one of his paintings at an antique dealer, and tracked him down. Grantham has been creating works in Milwaukee for decades without much notice. The current gallery exhibition features his earlier works, as well as several of his authentic 50s television cabinets.
